As cold days turn into chilly mornings and warm afternoons (let’s hope sooner rather than later), long wool coats need to be replaced with something lighter and more versatile. But this spring, instead of reaching for a trench, try reaching for a fun bomber jacket instead. Although originally borrowed from the boys, this spring’s biggest jacket trend has been reimagined in more feminine fabrics, shorter silhouettes, and bold prints.
From brocade, velvet, sheering, and silk, this season’s bomber jackets offer a fun alternative in outerwear. Beyond pure functionality, however, they are also a great and unexpected alternative to traditional blazers. They look great dressed up with a pussy bow blouse and a-line skirt or tuxedo pants. In the right color and fabric, bomber jackets are perfectly work appropriate. Of course, they are equally fashionable paired with joggers and sneakers.
To really make the most of this trend, I suggest going for a bomber in a floral print, rich textile, or plays with multiple patterns. This pretty Maje bomber is a perfect example of all three. I love the rich brocade fabric with a navy floral print juxtaposed with a bold red stripe at the collar and cuffs. Playing off that red stripe, I added a navy and red striped blouse.
