French Working Girl

I get a lot of requests on Instagram to share more work looks. And I totally get it. As more and more bloggers quit their day jobs to blog full-time, there is a severe shortage of work-appropriate looks and inspiration in the blogsphere.

Yet despite working full time, I am just as guilty of not sharing a lot of work looks. I started blogging as a means to escape the politics of dressing in professional academic world. That said, realizing that people want to see more work-focused looks, I am happy to oblige! I will be posting my daily work looks on Instastories and I want to try and share one work appropriate look each week here on the blog. I say try because of my academic schedule. There will be periods, like teaching in Italy over the summer, when my workwear won’t exactly be office friendly.

This look is a great example of one of my go-to work looks. You can elevate any black dress with a great tweed blazer or swing coat. It’s stylish, professional, and easy to wear. The trick to pairing a swing coat with a dress, is to make sure your dress is just a few inches longer than the coat. I love a neutral tweed like this because you can add a pop of color to transform the look. A red sweater and black pants would look equally chic with this coat. The only part of this outfit I wouldn’t actually wear to work are the shoes. They are super cute, don’t get me wrong. But, they are a little too tall for walking around a college campus.

Are you happy to see more workwear here?
