I found the colors of Cartagena so inspiring. I knew before I went that it was a colorful and beautiful historic city, so I packed accordingly. Despite knowing the city’s reputation for color, I still found myself delighted by each and every colorful wall, window, balcony, and door.

Thus, I knew two things while packing for my trip – there were lots of colorful walls and the weather is always warm. So, I stuck to light-weight dresses, bold patterns, and flowy separates. If I could give any advice, it would be dress for the heat and humidity. You’re going to be walking around the city in warm temps and lots of humidity. Also, a great hat and sunglasses (not to mention sunscreen) are key for sun protection.

Below is a rundown of everything I packed. The MVP was my Lilly Pulitzer silk caftan. Lilly’s silky caftans have been a go-to for me in warm weather destinations like the Amalfi Coast for years, and Cartagena was no exception. I found my caftan to be the one thing I was happy/relieved to put on during the hottest part of the day (I purchased mine during an After Party Sale, but they release them every year and some are still on Amazon here). For dressing up, I loved the way this gorgeous, puff sleeve yellow dress looked against the walls and streets of Cartagena. For me it just captured the look and feel of the city.

You will also want to leave room in your suitcase for some shopping while in Cartagena. The city has some amazing shops and designers… but more on that later!
