After several steamy days exploring Cartagena, Britt and I were ready for a beach retreat. Even though the city of Cartagena is a port city right on the water, the beaches around the city are not great. The best beaches are actually located on the gorgeous nearby islands. The Rosario islands are by far the most popular and are about an hour away by boat. There are lots of white sandy beaches and resorts. I would describe these islands as the party islands. While these islands definitely looked like a good time, we opted for the more serene (and closer) island of Tierra Bomba. It is less crowded and far more relaxing.

We chose Tierra Bomba specifically for the gorgeous and exclusive Blue Apple Beach Club. I mean, look at it! It is basically paradise. Secluded in a small cove, Blue Apple provides beach-side umbrellas and chairs or an adorable cabana, as well as a gorgeous pool, group games, hammocks, massage services, delicious drinks, and fabulous food. They even pick you up and drop you off from Cartagena. It’s the perfect day trip. The only caveat is that you have to spend 80,000 pesos while there. Trust me, this is not a problem and it is worth every penny. You will easily spend that (which is only $28) on delicious paella and drinks, which are brought to you pool- or beach-side. Honestly, I would have felt fine paying 28 bucks just for the beach cabana and transport to and from the resort.

Both Britt and I agreed that our day at Blue Apple was one of the best days ever! This conclusion was probably aided by the three bottles of cava we enjoyed (whoops!). I cannot recommend Tierra Bomba and Blue Apple enough if you are planning a trip to Cartagena. But you will want to book Blue Apple in advance. They limit day passes to 40 a day.
