I don’t even know where to begin with my trip to Cartagena. It was nothing short of magical and I have so much to share! If Cartagena is not on your travel bucket list, it needs to be. The city has so much history, character, and color!
And before everyone asks, yes, I felt completely safe the entire time I was there. It is important to remember that a lot has changed in Colombia over the past 18 years. Honestly, I can think of numerous times I felt far more accosted and unsafe in Rome and Paris. That said, Colombia still has its issues. But as long as you are smart, stick to tourist destinations, and don’t venture solo into the known (and well-publicized) dangerous zones, you are perfectly fine.
Cartagena is the perfect introduction to Colombia. I found the city absolutely warm, welcoming, and delightful. The history nerd in me loved learning about and strolling one of the oldest and most important cities in Latin America. And if the city’s history, charm, and color were not enough, the exchange rate is three to one, making it incredibly affordable! This week I will be recapping everything about my trip, but for now enjoy some colorful pictures of this amazing city (sorry for the all the exclamation points, I am just so excited to share Cartagena)!
