Summer Hat Guide

I am pretty much a crazy hat lady. And for good reason — hats are very chic, elevate any look, counter bad hair days, and protect your face and eyes from the sun (especially when traveling). Why wouldn’t I love hats?

For some reason I find that most people fall into two hat categories: 1) crazy hat lady or 2) “I can’t pull of hats.”

For those of you who are convinced you cannot pull of a hat, think again. Like sunglasses, it is all about finding the right shape for your face and style. I personally find that the boater hat fits me and my personal style best. Over the years I have amassed quite the boater hat (and hat) collection. Earlier this year, I finally invested in a gorgeous Gucci boater hat. Honestly, it remains one of my best purchases to date.

If you are still trying to get into hats, start small. No need to invest in anything crazy. Experiment with different styles and materials and find what works for you. Once you’ve discovered what works, invest in a timeless, quality hat that you can enjoy for years to come.

Fortunately, hats have been making a comeback over the past couple of years, meaning there are so many great styles to choose from. I have rounded up my summer favorites at every price point below (like this great Gucci dupe!).

  1. Kristian

I love hats. Alas, I’m in that third category, “I live someplace so windy, trying to wear a hat is a losing battle.” After a number of years, I’ve slowly let my hat collect go to people who can actually wear them once in a while successfully, but your post makes me want hats….

  2. Laura

I am starting to get into hats…or at least trying. I’ve got a little head so its sometimes difficult to find ones that fit. I now have two! I bought a floppy hat in Cabo and just got a straw fedora. I plan on wearing both in Hawaii this week and hope to get used to wearing them. Seems like the perfect place to try them out! (check out my blog at lauraenroute.com or instagram @laura_en_route for pics of me in hats in Hawaii).
